XAT 2026 – Complete Preparation Guide
XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is the gateway to XLRI Jamshedpur — India's premier HR and Business Management school. Unlike CAT, XAT has a unique Decision Making section that tests ethical dilemmas and complex reasoning scenarios.
XAT 2026 Exam Pattern
Part 1 (190 minutes): Decision Making (21 questions), Verbal & Logical Ability (26 questions), Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (27 questions). Part 2 (35 minutes): General Knowledge (25 questions, not counted in percentile). Total time: 3 hours 25 minutes.
XAT vs CAT – Key Differences
XAT has Decision Making (unique section — no CAT equivalent). XAT GK section doesn't affect percentile but affects XLRI shortlist. XAT Verbal is more reading-heavy. XAT Quantitative is slightly easier than CAT. XAT essay: Not required from 2023 onwards. XLRI accepts only XAT scores (not CAT).
Decision Making Preparation Tips
Decision Making is the most unique and difficult section. It covers business scenarios, ethical dilemmas, and case-based questions. Strategy: Practice with XLRI's published DM papers. Read case studies from HBR (Harvard Business Review). Learn frameworks: Stakeholder analysis, Cost-benefit analysis, Ethical decision frameworks.
XLRI Jamshedpur Cutoffs 2026 (Expected)
BM (Business Management): 95+ percentile overall. HRM (Human Resource Management): 93+ percentile overall. Both programs require minimum section-wise cutoffs — typically 70-75 percentile per section. GPA: 95%+ shortlisted typically have above 65-70% academic scores.
6-Month XAT Study Plan
Month 1-2: Quant + Verbal fundamentals (same as CAT). Month 3-4: DM practice + GK building. Month 5: XAT specific mocks + previous year papers. Month 6: Full XAT mocks (2-3 per week). Goal: 5+ full XAT mocks in final month.
